MY TRAVERSE LOSES POWER STEERING AT LOW SPEEDS. WHEN PULLING INTO OR OUT OF A PARKING SPOT THERE IS NO POWER STEERING. ALSO OCCURS WHEN TURNING TO MAKE A U TURN WHEN AT LOW RPM. THIS STARTED IN JULY 2013 AND HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE. I HAVE TAKEN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES WITHOUT ANY CONFIRMED DIAGNOSE. THE LACK OF POWER STEERING MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER IN PARKING LOTS OR PARKING GARAGES. THEY NOTED A SMALL LEAK ON THE RACK AND PINION BUT DO NOT BELIEVE THAT IT IS RELATED TO THE POWER STEERING PROBLEM AT LOW SPEEDS. THE STEERING WORKS GREAT AT SPEEDS HIGHER THEN 30MPH. *TR

AS WITH ALL THE OTHERS, GOT THE RUN AROUND FROM THE LOCAL CHEVY REPAIR SHOP, AND ALSO WITH GM CUSTOMER SERVICE - WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE OR EVEN TALK ABOUT ALL THE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. I GOT GM CUSTOMER SERVICE TO GO GOOD FOR MOST OF THE REPAIR COST OF INSTALLING A NEW POWER STEERING PUMP AND STEERING GEARS. ALL AFTER 3 TRIPS TO THE REPAIR SHOP, THE FIRST TIME THEY INSISTED I JUST NEEDED A POWER STEERING FLUSH - 2ND TIME THEY PUT IN THE PUMP, 3RD TIME FINALLY "FOUND" THE LEAKY GEAR. LET'S HOPE THIS HOLDS OUT - DROVE GOOD FOR THE 40 MILE TRIP HOME. *TR

I WAS DRIVING MY CHEVY TRAVERSE ON A MAIN ROAD WHEN IT STARTED MAKING A LOUD NOISE, STEERING WHEEL GOT VERY STIFF AND IT WAS HARD FOR ME TO STEER. I IMMEDIATELY TRIED MAKING A LEFT TURN IN ORDER TO PULL INTO A RESIDENTIAL BLOCK AND OUT OF HARMS WAY. IT WAS REALLY HARD FOR ME TO TRY TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE AND GET BOTH ME AND MY CHILD OUT OF HARMS WAY. THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO PARK IT IN A SAFE SPOT AND OUT OF THE WAY OF ON COMING TRAFFIC. IF I WOULDN'T HAVE REACTED QUICKLY AND USED ALL OF MY STRENGTH TO TRY TO STEER THE VEHICLE IT COULD'VE TURNED INTO A TRAGIC ACCIDENT. I WAS VERY AFRAID FOR BOTH ME AND MY CHILD. GM/CHEVY SHOULD PLACE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL ON THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. NOW MY TRUCK IS IN THE SHOP AND I AM LOOKING AT A COST OF $2100 FOR A POWER STEERING PUMP. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE THINKING IT WAS A SAFE CROSSOVER FOR MY FAMILY. *TR

WHILE TURNING THE CAR GOING FORWARD OR REVERSING RIGHT OR LEFT THE STEERING WILL LOCKUP. IT FEELS LIKE THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT. I CAN START THE TURN WITH NO TROUBLE AND MID WAY THROUGH IT CAN LOCK UP AND THEN RELEASE AGAIN. THIS IS NOT ALWAYS CONSISTENT THOUGH AND DOESN'T HAPPEN ON EVERY TURN. THIS HAS MANY TIMES CAUSED ME TO ALMOST NOT MAKE MY TURN. WHEN IT LOCKS UP IT TAKE BOTH HANDS AND ALL MY STRENGTH AND WEIGHT TO PULL ON THE WHEEL TO COMPLETE A TURN. AGAIN NOT CONSISTENT. SOMETIMES IT NEVER HAPPENS DURING A DRIVE. OTHER TIMES IT HAPPENS ON ALMOST EVERY TURN. THERE ARE ALSO TIMES THAT IT IS HARD TO TURN WHEN I FIRST TRY OR START A TURN. I CAN SOMETIMES RECREATE IT IF I START A TURN, NOT TURNING THE WHEEL THE FULL TURN I NEED AND THEN PULL MORE ON THE WHEEL... IT SEEMS TO LOCK UP MOST TIMES. BUT AGAIN NOT ALWAYS. THE DEALERSHIP LITHIA LOOKED AT IT FOR US ONCE AND FOUND SOME MOISTURE IN AN AREA THEY THOUGHT MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSING AN ISSUE AND REPLACED A SEAL BUT THIS WAS SEVERAL MONTHS AGO AND IT DIDN'T CHANGE A THING. WE ARE TAKING IT IN AGAIN TODAY AND HOPE THAT THEY FIND SOMETHING AS I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2010 TRAVERSE LS BRAND NEW FROM A DEALER AND AM NOW HAVING SERIOUS ISSUES WITH THE STEERING LOCKING UP. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE TRAVERSE INTO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD, AS SHE TURNED OFF THE MAIN STREET INTO THE NEIGHBORHOOD THE STEERING LOCKED AND SHE COULD NOT COME OUT OF THE TURN. SHE HAD TO ALMOST STOP THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY FOR THE STEERING TO UNLOCK SO SHE COULD CONTINUE. SHE ALMOST HIT A PARKED CAR AND WAS ALMOST STRUCK BY ANOTHER CAR AS SHE HAD TO STOP HALF WAY THROUGH HER TURN TO UNLOCK THE STEERING. THE PROBLEM ONLY CONTINUED TO WORSEN, STEERING LOCKING MORE OFTEN AND CAUSING NUMEROUS NEAR MISSES. ALMOST STRIKING CARS, BUILDINGS, FENCES AND CURBS. IT MOSTLY HAPPENS AT SLOWER SPEEDS, 35MPH OR LESS AND HAS CAUSED US TO HIT OUR GARAGE TRYING TO PULL IN OR OUT. IT HAS, HOWEVER HAPPENED A FEW TIMES AT HIGHER SPEEDS WHILE DRIVING THROUGH CURVES ON THE HIGHWAY AND CITY STREETS, 45-70 MPH. WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER IN DECEMBER 2013 AND DIAGNOSED AS RACK AND PINION ISSUE. RACK AND PINION HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE(NOT UNDER WARRANTY) AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ONLINE LINE AND THIS IS HAPPENING TO MANY PEOPLE THAT OWN TRAVERSE, ACADIA, ENCLAVE AND OUTLOOKS ALL WITH THE SAME STEERING COMPONENTS. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO GET GM TO RECTIFY THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE HAS TO DIE OR BE SERIOUSLY INJURED DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. *TR

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Seat Belts; Seat Belts:front; Seat Belts:front:anchorage

On August 31, 2020, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened Engineering Analysis (EA) EA20002, as an upgrade of Recall Query (RQ) RQ19003. This investigation, related to recall 14V-266, was opened to investigate instances of detachment of the flexible steel seat belt anchor cable attached to the outboard side of the front seats in vehicles manufactured by General Motors (GM). The subject vehicles included model year (MY) 2009 through 2014 GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave, and Chevrolet Traverse SUVs as well as MY 2009 through 2010 Saturn Outlook SUVs. These vehicles were previously repaired for this defect under recall 14V-266. The subject vehicle population is approximately 1.3 million vehicles. Special Coverage N192219480, issued in June 2019, addressed the subject defect in vehicles that previously received the recall remedy repair for subject recall 14V-266. The Special Coverage allows for component replacement for 12 years or 180,000 miles from the initial sale date, whichever comes first. Special Coverage N192219480 instructed service technicians to inspect the driver’s seat belt anchor cable for any damage to the protective sleeve and if damage was observed, the cable was replaced with a new sleeve as well as a new closeout piece that relocated the cable to mitigate the subject condition. In view of the Special Coverage conducted by General Motors, the high detectability of the subject failure, and the low rate of occurrence, this Engineering Analysis is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. RQ19003 · Seat Belt Anchor Cable Failure

Opened May 28, 2019 · Closed Aug 31, 2020

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Seat Belts:front; Seat Belts:front:anchorage; Seat Belts:pretensioner

On May 19, 2014, General Motors LLC (GM) notified the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) that it would conduct Safety Recall 14V266 to address fatigue and separation of the flexible steel cable that connects the front outboard seat belts to the seat-mounted belt pre-tensioner in 1.4 million model year (MY) 2009-2010 Saturn Outlook, 2009-2014 Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Chevrolet Traverse (Lambda Platform) vehicles. The remedy was to inspect for signs of damage and replace pre-tensioner anchor cables as needed. Re-work was conducted to relocate the pre-tensioner anchor cable out of the occupant entry path. ODI has subsequently received four (4) Vehicle Owners Questionnaires (VOQ) reporting anchor cable separations with no apparent warning in covered vehicles after the Recall 14V266 remedy had been applied.ODI opened RQ19-003 to assess the effectiveness of the actions GM took in Recall 14V266 and review the full warranty and complaint data related to seat belt anchor cable separations and replacements. ODI continues to receive occasional cable failure complaints both for the subject vehicles and other GM models and model years that have also been previously recalled addressing this condition.Although the cable separation complaint rate is very low, over the past three years ODI has received two (2) additional VOQ?s citing belt cable separations for Lambda platform vehicles outside the scope of recall 14V266, (11217092, 11118075) and complaints for other GM models covered in a number of similar Safety Recalls:* 15V269, 2011-12 Chevrolet Malibu (11181115, 11288168); * 16V209, 2014-15 Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500 (11254364, 10935183, 10953851, 11025376, 11282043, 11288701, 11309884); and * 16V518 2014-16 Caprice Police Pursuit, SS (10905644, 10990669, 11340893).ODI's review of GM's data confirms the low potential failure rate for the vehicles covered by recall 14V266. However, ODI believes that complainants may not recognize accumulating cable fatigue damage from the visual cues available in routine vehicle use.ODI is upgrading RQ19-003 to an Engineering Analysis to more closely assess seat belt conditions and strength levels in the field. Seat Belts:front:anchorage
