WHILE PICKING MY CHILDREN UP FROM SCHOOL ON 11/15/2012 I SMELLED BURNING PLASTIC, THEN I LOOKED DOWN AT THE DRIVE DOOR IT WAS SMOKING REALLY BAD. I PUT THE CAR AND PARK AND OPENED THE DOOR, A POLICE OFFICER WAS NEAR AS I WAS IN THE SCHOOL ZONE HE SAW THE SMOKE COMING FROM MY CAR AND ASK ME WAS I OKAY. HE TURNED THE CAR OFF UNSURE IF A FIRE WAS STARTED ON THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR. AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR THE SMOKE STOPPED, BUT MY MAIN POWER WINDOW AND DOOR WAS NOT WORKING ANYMORE. MY CAR SMELLED LIKE BURNING PLASTIC FOR MONTHS. I WAS ADVISED THAT THE MOTOR MAY HAVE BURNED OUT AND IT WOULD COST $550.00 TO HAVE REPAIRED. I NOTICED ON 01/26/2013 MY GAS GAUGE WAS NOT WORKING. I STOPPED AT A LOCAL GAS STATION AND FILLED MY CAR UP WITH $62.00 WORTH THE GAS AND WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON IT SHOWED MY CAR WAS ON EMPTY AND THE GAUGE LIGHT REMAINED LIT ALONG WITH MY ENGINE LIGHT. SO I TURNED THE CAR BACK OFF AND WAITED ABOUT 30 SEC AND TURNED IT BACK ON IT STAYED THE SAME. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND WAS ADVISED THE FUEL SENSOR WAS BAD AND I WOULD NEED TO HAVE A NEW FUEL PUMP PUT IN. I BOUGHT MY CAR ON 02/27/2010 PRE-OWNED WITH 76,000 MILES ON IT, AND WAS GIVEN A CAR FAX REPORT, AND IT WAS CLEAN. I READ ALL THESE REVIEWS ABOUT THE 2007 TRAILBLAZERS AND IT SEEMS THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME ISSUES. THESE ISSUES NEED TO BE CORRECTED AS THEY HAVE TO BE A MANUFACTURE DEFECT. *TR

AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK AT A LOCAL WAWA GAS STATION THAT I'VE USED SINCE OWNING THE VEHICLE, I BEGAN TO HEAD HOME AFTER WORK. AS I LEFT THE PARKING LOT AND PROCEEDED TO MERGE ONTO THE MAIN HIGHWAY MY FUEL GAUGE AND FUEL PUMP COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING, TRUCK HAD SHUT OFF AS IF IT HAD RUN COMPLETELY OUT OF GAS, WHICH WAS NOT THE CASE AS I HAD JUST FILLED THE 22 GALLON TANK WITH APPROX. 20 GALLONS OF FUEL. THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO KEEP THE FUEL PUMP OPERATING AFTER LETTING THE TRUCK SIT FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES, BUT THE FUEL GAUGE IS NO LONGER OPERATIONAL, BUT WHO KNOWS HOW LONG THE FUEL PUMP WILL OPERATE PROPERLY. UNFORTUNATELY MY FIANCE AND CHILD NOW HAVE TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE DUE TO THE FACT OF OUR SECOND VEHICLE BEING SOLD. IT HAS NOW BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE AS THERE IS NO BEARING ON FUEL LEVEL IN VEHICLE. I'VE DONE RESEARCH AND FOUND THIS ISSUE TO BE A RECURRING THEME FOR THE MODEL YEARS 2005 - 2007 AS WELL AS SEEING SPECIAL POLICY LETTERS SENT OUT BY GM TO ACQUAINTANCES WITH THE SAME MODEL YEAR SUV FOR A REBATED REPAIR FROM A LICENSED GM DEALER AND YET I'VE NOT RECEIVED ONE. ITS NOW AFFECTING THE REGISTRATION PROCESS FOR MY VEHICLE TO COMPLY WITH STATE REGULATIONS. I DO NOT FEEL AS THOUGH ANY RESPONSIBILITY SHOULD FALL ON THE CONSUMER FOR A PART THAT WAS POORLY FABRICATED BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR

WE NEED YOUR HELP! ***FAULTY GAS GAUGE*** OUR 19-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER DRIVES OUR 2007 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER, WHICH APPARENTLY HAS A KNOWN PROBLEM OF A FAULTY GAS GAUGE. OUR DAUGHTER NOTICED HER GAS GAUGE "DROPPED" TO E AND SHE BELIEVED SHE WAS ABOUT TO BE STRANDED ON A DANGEROUS PART OF THE HIGHWAY AT NIGHT AND SHE PANICKED. AT FIRST, WE THOUGHT SHE JUST FORGOT TO FILL UP. AFTER IT HAPPENED AGAIN, WE RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ONLY TO FIND THAT NHTSA AND CHEVROLET ALREADY KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM AND NEGLECTED TO INITIATE A TOTAL RECALL OR ANY NOTIFICATION AT ALL. WE NEVER EVEN RECEIVED A WARNING LETTER IN THE MAIL FROM CHEVROLET. HOWEVER, WE ROUTINELY RECEIVE OTHER, APPARENTLY MORE IMPORTANT CORRESPONDENCE, SUCH AS, SALES LITERATURE FOR WARRANTIES AND ONSTAR. ****IF THIS WAS ONE OF YOUR DAUGHTERS AND SHE WAS STRANDED BECAUSE OF A FALSE READING, AND SOMETHING HORRIBLE HAPPENED TO HER BECAUSE SHE WAS STRANDED, I THINK YOU WOULD ADDRESS THIS ISSUE MORE AGGRESSIVELY****** WE HAVE READ THAT CHEVY WILL PAY FOR 1/2 OF THE REPAIR. THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. WE DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY. THIS IS A QUALITY CONTROL ISSUE ON CHEVY?S PART, NOT A WEAR AND TEAR ISSUE ON OUR PART. WE ARE COUNTING ON YOU TO IMPLORE THAT CHEVY COMPLETELY TAKE CARE OF THIS REPAIR FREE OF CHARGE TO US. TAKING TIME OFF FROM WORK AND SCHOOL, PLUS THE THREAT OF POSSIBLY STALLING IN TRAFFIC AND BEING KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT IS INCONVENIENCE ENOUGH. PLEASE HELP BEFORE SOMETHING ESPECIALLY TERRIBLE HAPPENS TO ANYONE. THANK YOU. *TR

GAUGE DROPPING; REDUCED ENGINE POWER WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY (SUDDENLY LIMITING SPEED TO 20 MPH OR LESS); REAR WIPER TURNING ON BY ITSELF; POWER SEAT MALFUNCTIONING; ROUGH ENGINE IDLE; ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING UP; RUNNING OUT OF FUEL WHILE THE GAUGE INDICATES THAT THERE IS AMPLE FUEL IN THE TANK; BRAKE LAMPS NOT FUNCTIONING; REDUCED GAS MILEAGE. ON 02/25/2013, THE CONTROLS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOORS STOPPED WORKING; THE WINDOWS WILL NOT OPERATE OR LOCK/UNLOCK, THE EXTERIOR MIRRORS WILL NOT ADJUST, AND THE LOCKING MECHANISM WILL NOT WORK. I HAVE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AT LEAST A HALF DOZEN TIMES, AND EACH TIME NO PROBLEMS WERE DETECTED, NO EXPLANATIONS GIVEN, AND NO REMEDIES SUGGESTED! FROM WHAT I'VE GATHERED, THERE WERE RECALLS ISSUED FOR ELECTRICAL/WIRING PROBLEMS AS WELL AS FUEL GAUGE PROBLEMS, YET I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE OF ANY SUCH RECALLS FROM GM! *TR

SOME OF THE ITEMS FORTHCOMING HAPPEN ALL TOGETHER AND/OR INTERMITTENTLY SEPARATE. THE INITIAL ISSUES NOTICEABLY STARTED UPON MY ARRIVE IN SOUTH CAROLINA, BUT IT WAS NOT SOMETHING THAT IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZED BEFORE MY RELOCATION, BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS SOMETHING I DID MYSELF. I CAME OUT TO MY CAR ON SATURDAY, 6/16/12. MY CAR WINDOW WAS DOWN AND SOME ITEMS WERE STOLEN. I DID NOT SEE ANY GLASS ON THE GROUND SO I THOUGHT I LEFT THE WINDOW DOWN MYSELF AND SOMEONE JUST STOLEN ITEMS. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE COMPLEX SECURITY AND REPORTING THE INCIDENT TO HOA, I CAME OUT THE TRUCK AGAIN IT SMELLED OF WIRES BURNING AND THE WINDOW WAS DOWN AGAIN. SEVERAL DAYS LATER THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT WAS ON AND TOOK THE TRUCK TO GET THE WHEELS BALANCED AND OIL CHANGE AT FIRESTONE. THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OUT, NOR DID THE ENGINE AND OIL LIGHT GO OUT. A FEW MONTHS AFTER THAT THE SMELL OF WIRES BURNING HAPPENED AGAIN AND THE ENGINE REMAINED ON FOR OVER 2 WEEKS, THEN WENT OFF. IN THE LATE FALL THERE WAS A REALLY BAD THUNDERSTORM AND WHEN ARRIVED TO TRUCK AFTER WORK; RUNNING IN RAIN, I SAW THAT MY WINDOW WAS DOWN AND I COULD NOT GET THE WINDOW BACK UP FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES. I WAS SOAKED AND SO WAS THE CAR. THE TRUCK RECEIVED AN OIL CHANGE RECENTLY AND ALL THE LIGHTS WOULD NOT GO OUT AND THE WALMART MECHANIC WHO DID THE OIL CHANGE STATED THAT HE SMELLED GAS AND SOME WIRES BURNING, LIGHTS ON PANEL WOULD NOT GO OUT. SMELL OF WIRES BURNING. ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON FOR DAYS-THEN GOES OFF BY ITSELF. ALL LIGHTS EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON PANEL INTERMITTENTLY ON (OIL/TRACTION/TIRE PRESSURE). FUEL GAUGE SHOWS/CLICKS AS FULL, SMELLS LIKE GAS IN TRUCK AND RUNS OUT OF FUEL WITH GAUGE SHOWING FULL. DRIVER'S WINDOW GOES DOWN WHEN KEYS ARE NOT IN TRUCK. HEATING KNOB ON OFF, STILL BLOWING HOT OR COLD AIR AND GAUGE DOES NOT TURN ON PAST 2. LIGHTS DIM WHEN USING POWER BUTTON FOR WINDOWS. *TR

Sep 24, 2015

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer and GMC Envoy vehicles, and 2006 GMC Envoy XL and Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT vehicles. Fluid may enter into the driver's door master power window switch module, causing corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board, causing window switches to become inoperative. Previously, the affected vehicles may have had their master power window switch module treated with a protective coating, instead of having it replaced.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: The protective coating may not eliminate the risk that the circuit board could short and result in a fire, even while the vehicle is unattended.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install a new driver's door switch module, free of charge. The recall began on November 2, 2015. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 15700.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2006-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2007 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT, GMC Envoy XL, 2006-2008 Isuzu Ascender, and Saab 9-7x vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the headlamp driver module (HDM) may overheat and fail, causing the headlamps and daytime running lights to not illuminate.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Headlamps that do not illuminate reduce the driver's ability to see the roadway and reduce the vehicle's visibility to oncoming vehicles, both of which increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the HDM, free of charge. The recall began on May 17, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14291.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2007 SAAB 9-7x; 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL; and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier and Isuzu Ascender vehicles. Fluid may enter the driver's door master power window switch module, causing corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or become inoperative. The short may also cause overheating, which could melt components of the door module, producing odor, smoke, or a fire.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A short in the circuit board could lead to a fire, increasing the risk of personal injury. A fire could occur even while the vehicle is not in use. As a precaution, owners are advised to park outside until the remedy has been made.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the part number on the door module, and install a new door module if necessary, free of charge. Parts for the remedy are not currently available. An interim letter was mailed to owners in August 2014. A second owner letter will be mailed when parts are available. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-462-8782 (GMC), 1-800-955-9007 (SAAB), and 1-800-255-6727 (Isuzu). GM's number for this recall is 14309. NOTE: This recall provides a new remedy for all vehicles covered by recall 13V-248. Vehicles whose modules were modified but not replaced as part of the previous recall remedy must have their vehicles remedied again under this campaign.

The focus of the investigation was to determine whether actions performed by General Motors adequately addressed any unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety in the subject vehicles concerning the headlights and the HDM that controls them.Under normal electrical load and environmental conditions, the HDM can overheat inside the Underhood Electrical Center (UEC). This can cause the module to fail and result in a simultaneous loss of both low beam headlights and both daytime running lights (DRLs), often with no warning or prior detectability to the driver. This failure can be intermittent or permanent. No other exterior lights are affected. High beams, turn signals, brake lights, and reverse lights are still operational.General Motors addressed this issue with 2 recalls (14V755 & 15V519) and a special coverage program (N172091910). In view of the recalls and special coverage program implemented by GM and the vehicle high beams continuing to operate, ODI has tentatively concluded that the actions taken by GM mitigate any unreasonable risk to safety posed by HDM failure in the subject vehicles.Accordingly, the investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by new circumstances. The ODI reports cited above are available for review online at NHTSA.gov under the identification numbers in the attached document.

On August 15, 2012 General Motors (GM) announced a regional recall action (12V-406) involving model year (MY) 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, Isuzu Ascender and MY2005-2007 SAAB 9-7x vehicles originally sold or currently registered in the salt belt states of Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia. The recall remedy requires the inspection and repair or replacement of the master power window switch, which GM refers to as a driver door module (DDM). At the same time, GM implemented a special coverage program to replace failed DDMs for vehicles registered outside of these states. ODI was not satisfied with GM's exclusion of non-salt belt vehicles and continued its investigation. On June 13, 2013, GM submitted a related recall notification (13V-248) to reclassify the initial special coverage program into a safety recall for vehicles that were not previously repaired under special coverage. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Engineering Analysis EA12-004 on June 11, 2012 to further investigate allegations of DDM thermal incidents in model year (MY) 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer vehicles. Thermal incidents involve cases where fire-related events such as smoke and melt are present. ODI has received 170 reports alleging a thermal event occurred. Complainants stated that the DDM melted and in some cases produced odor and/or smoke. Fourteen of these incidents led to a fire where visible flames were reported or the damage extended significantly beyond the DDM. In addition to the 170 reports listed above, ODI received 63 reports alleging the DDM acted erratically or became inoperative. In response to ODI's Information Request (IR), GM provided 619 unique consumer complaints that related to the alleged problem. Seventy-seven of those reports led to a fire with flame, and 4 reported injuries of smoke inhalation and/or slight burns from contact with hot switches. GM also submitted 20,400 warranty claims for replacement of the DDM, most of which involved inoperative switches. The problem condition is caused by fluids, such as rain water, entering the driver's door module and subsequently causing corrosion that could result in an electrical short in the printed circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or become inoperative. However, the electrical short may also cause overheating that could melt components of the door module, producing odor, smoke or in some cases fire with flame. The circuit board was redesigned and GM implemented the new design into vehicle production on May 14, 2007. All failures cited above occurred in vehicles produced before this build date (i.e., with the original design DDM). GM also reported that all MY 2006-2007 GMT360/370 platform vehicles and MY 2005 SAAB 9-7x vehicles utilized the same DDM and therefore ODI expanded the subject population to include these vehicles. This investigation is closed on the basis of GM's announcement of safety recalls 12V-406 and 13V-248. The ODI complaints cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID, see the attached list for ODI numbers.
