AFTER I FILLED THE FUEL TANK IN MY CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER THE FUEL LIGHT CAME ON AND THE FUEL GAUGE READ EMPTY. SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN RESETTING MY TRIP METER WHEN EVER I FUEL UP,BUT MY HUSBAND FORGOT TO AFTER FILLING UP AND RAN OUT OF FUEL WHEN HE WASN'T SURE OF HOW MUCH GAS THE VEHICLE ACTUALLY HAD. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AFTER I FOUND THAT THE NHTSA HAD A DEFECT INVESTIGATION ON MY VEHICLE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INFORMED ME THAT IT WOULD ONLY BE REPLACED IF THE VEHICLE WAS 120,000 MILES OR UNDER AND UNTIL AUGUST 2015.NOW I HAVE 122,000 MILES I'M RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE PART MYSELF? THE PROBLEM AND DANGER OF ENGINE STALL STILL EXISTS DUE TO LOW FUEL LEVELS NO MATTER WHAT THE MILEAGE IS.THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURE DID NOT INFORM US THAT WE HAD TO DISPOSE OF THE VEHICLE AFTER 120,000 MILES BECAUSE IT WAS GOING TO BE UNSAFE AND NO WARRANTY TO REPAIR A DANGEROUS RECALL.I FEEL THAT CHEVROLET SHOULD REPLACE THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR NO MATTER WHAT THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS BECAUSE THE DANGERS STILL EXIST.I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE THOUGHT PROCESS BEHIND THIS AND I GREATLY APPRECIATE HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM. *TR

ONCE I TURNED ON THE CAR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AND THEN I NOTICED THE GAS GAUGE MOVING RANDOMLY, BACK AND FORTH. IT THEN STAYED ON EMPTY. WELL I CALLED OUR MECHANIC SINCE WE WERE LEAVING ON A ROAD TRIP AND HE RECOMMENDED I FILL UP AT EVERY 200 MILES TO BE SAFE. AFTER I WAS TOLD OF THE EXPENSE TO FIX IT, I CONTINUE TO PROLONG THE REPAIR AND DECIDED TO DO FURTHER RESEARCH INTO THIS SITUATION. I AM BAFFLED BY THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM AND STILL NO RECALL BY GM. CAN YOU IMAGINE THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT REPORTED THE PROBLEM AND JUST TAKE IT DIRECTLY TO THEIR MECHANIC TO FIX. SHOULD EVERYONE BE REPORTING THE INCIDENT WE MAY HAVE GOTTEN THIS TO TURN INTO A RECALL. WELL IN HOPES THAT MY COMPLAINT HELPS...HERE IT GOES. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE WHO IS EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. IT SUCKS NOT KNOWING HOW MUCH GAS YOU REALLY HAVE. *TR

AFTER PUTTING FUEL IN MY TANK, I STARTED TO PULL OUT OF THE GAS STATION AND NOTICED MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND MY FUEL GAUGE WAS BOUNCING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN EMPTY AND FULL. THIS WENT ON FOR THE ENTIRE DAY AS I WAS RUNNING ERRANDS. THEN THE GAUGE DROPPED TO EMPTY AND STAYED THERE AS WELL AS MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYING ON. THE NEXT DAY THE GAUGE STAYED AT EMPTY AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. I STOPPED BY MY MECHANIC TO HAVE THEM CHECK AND SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON AND EXPLAINED TO THEM WHAT HAD HAPPENED THE DAY BEFORE. THEY CHECK THE CODE AND FOUND THAT IT WAS THE FUEL SENSOR AND RIGHT AFTER THEY CHECKED THE CODE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OUT AND THE FUEL GAUGE WENT TO FULL. THEY TOLD ME TO KEEP AN EYE ON IT AND LET THEM KNOW IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE IT. I CLOSELY WATCHED THE FUEL GAUGE AND NOTICED THAT MY FUEL GAUGE WAS NOT MOVING EVEN AFTER DRIVING OVER 100 MILES IT WAS STILL SHOWING FULL. AT THIS TIME I STARTED LOGGING THE MILEAGE EACH WEEK I FILLED MY TANK AS I WAS CONCERNED THAT I WOULD RUN OUT OF FUEL BECAUSE THE FUEL GAUGE WAS NOT REGISTERING CORRECTLY. THIS CONTINUED EVERY WEEK FOR MONTHS. THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE FUEL GAUGE STARTED DOING THIS MORE OFTEN DURING THE WEEK. SO I BROUGHT IT BACK TO MY MECHANIC AND HAD THE FUEL SENSOR REPLACED. SINCE THEN WITH ALL THE RECALLS THAT HAVE BEEN HAPPENING I DECIDED TO SEE IF MY VEHICLE WAS PART OF ANY OF THE RECALLS THAT WERE GOING ON AND NOTICED THE COMPLAINTS ON THE FUEL SENSOR. I SAW THAT THERE MAY BE A CHANCE THAT I COULD GET REIMBURSED FOR 50 PERCENT OF THE REPAIR WORK THAT I HAD TO HAVE DONE AS THEY WERE NOT DOING A FULL RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. IF THERE IS A CHANCE FOR REIMBURSEMENT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT MY NEXT STEP IS TO START THE PROCESS. *TR

I JUST WANT TO GET SOME INFORMATION OUT THERE ON MY EXPERIENCE: BATTERY REPLACEMENT SEEM WAYS TOO OFTEN 8/2008, 10/2010, 9/2013 - AND THERE IS NO NOTICE UNTIL YOU CANNOT START IT ONE DAY. FIRST THING TO GO WAS THE IDLE PULLEY. I HAVE HAD THE WATER PUMP/THERMOSTAT/BELTS REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES 50K, 60K, 87K. HEADLIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS REPLACED AT LEAST 3 TIMES EACH. I HAVE HAD TO CLEAN THE THROTTLE BLOCK PLATE MULTIPLE TIMES OR THE TB WILL STALL WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED OR HEAT/AC ON. I HAVE COME TO FIND OUT THAT THERE ARE MANY NON-OEM PARTS WHICH I NEVER REPLACED (I PURCHASED USED W/17K MILES) AND NOTHING SHOWED UP ON CAR FAX OR OTHER REPORTS ABOUT ACCIDENTS OR REPAIRS. I HAD THE GAS GUAGE/TANK/FLOAT REPAIRED WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY STILL AND THEN A YEAR LATER IT BROKE AGAIN, AND I AM STILL RIDING WITH IT BROKEN (AT LEAST THE LAST 5 YEARS), WHICH OF COURSE KEEPS MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON NEARLY ALL THE TIME. I JUST LOCATED THE NOTICE THAT GM IS NOW DOING 100% OF THE REPAIR AND I WILL BE MAKING AN APPOINTMENT TO GET IT FIXED AS I WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION AND I NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE. I FILL EVERY 200 MILES. THERE ARE OTHER MINOR ISSUES SUCH AS INTERIOR LIGHTS GOING OUT, BOTH OF THE FRONT SEATS HAVE DETACHED FROM THE SIDE MOLDING (ONLY 1 LITTLE SCREW HOLDS THEM IN), THE REAR WASHER HAS NOT WORKED IN ABOUT 6 YEARS. I ALSO HAVE LOUD NOISES COMING OUT OF THE TIRES/WHEELS AND NO ONE CAN DETERMINE AN EXACT CAUSE, BUT IT'S NOT THE BRAKES OR ROTORS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. I CURRENTLY HAVE UNDER 89K MILES. I AM WAITING FOR THE DOOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TO GO NEXT AS THAT SEEMS LIKE WHAT IS NEXT ON THE LIST OF TB ISSUES. *TR

OF COURSE GENERAL MOTORS WANTS AND ARM AND A LEG TO REPLACE IT!!!! I DON'T THINK I WILL EVER BUY ANOTHER CHEVY AGAIN, THIS IS RIDICULOUS! IF IT HAD CAUGHT FIRE WHICH I AM SURE IF PEOPLE CAN'T AFFORD OR DON'T GET THEIR VEHICLES PROPERLY CHECKED THERE WILL BE ONE THAT HAPPENS TO, IT COULD KILL SOMEONE! THIS IS TO REPORT A DEFECT THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE FUEL SENSING SYSTEM. THIS IS TO DOCUMENT MY CLAIM FOR RECALL PURPOSES. THERE HAVE BEEN TWO INCIDENTS, BUT I AM REPORTING THE FIRST INCIDENT TO KEEP THIS REPORT SHORT. WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE FUEL INDICATOR SHOWED ABOUT FULL, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, IT DROPPED TO LESS THAN EMPTY AND MY FUEL LIGHT ENGAGED. AS I WAS DRIVING TO GET TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION, THE ENGINE STOPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. LUCKILY, I WAS IN A POSITION TO LET THE VEHICLE ROLL AROUND A CORNER. IT WAS IN A DANGEROUS PLACE JUST AS CARS WERE COMPLETING THE TURN. I PUT THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS ON AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR BEFORE AN ACCIDENT COULD OCCUR. IT WAS ALSO FORTUNATE THAT MY VEHICLE DIDN'T CAUSE AN ACCIDENT THAT COULD HAVE HURT SOMEONE BESIDES MYSELF. THE OTHER REASON WHY THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN, IS I HAVE A RARE MEDICAL CONDITION THAT AFFECTS MY LUNGS AND HEART. IT PLACED ME IN A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS POSITION TO HEAT EXPOSURE. I HAVE A HARD TIME BREATHING IN HEAT AND HUMIDITY. AGAIN, FORTUNE WAS ON MY SIDE, AND THERE WAS A TREE FOR SHADE TO WAIT FOR HELP AND IT WAS ONE MONTH BEFORE IT GOT DANGEROUSLY HOT. GRANTED, THERE IS ALWAYS A CHANCE ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN TO A CAR THAT COULD POTENTIALLY PLACE ME IN THE SAME POSITION, BUT IN THIS CASE, ANOTHER OCCURRENCE OCCURRED AND WHEN I CALLED A LOCAL MECHANIC, IT WAS WELL KNOWN THAT HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH THE FUEL SENSOR. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, I AM AMONG MANY THAT HAS MADE THIS COMPLAINT AND PLACED IN DANGEROUS PREDICAMENTS. TO REPLACE A SMALL SENSOR COSTS A WHOLE MONTHS INCOME IN MY CASE. I DO NOT FEEL IT IS APPROPRIATE TO REQUIRE A CONSUMER TO PAY AND REPLACE A DEFECTIVE COMPONENT THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IT IS MY INTENT THIS ONGOING INVESTIGATION COMES TO A CLOSE, AS I HAVE SEEN REPORTS SINCE 2011. *TR

Sep 24, 2015

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer and GMC Envoy vehicles, and 2006 GMC Envoy XL and Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT vehicles. Fluid may enter into the driver's door master power window switch module, causing corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board, causing window switches to become inoperative. Previously, the affected vehicles may have had their master power window switch module treated with a protective coating, instead of having it replaced.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: The protective coating may not eliminate the risk that the circuit board could short and result in a fire, even while the vehicle is unattended.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install a new driver's door switch module, free of charge. The recall began on November 2, 2015. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 15700.

Aug 14, 2015

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2006-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2007 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT, GMC Envoy XL, 2006-2008 Isuzu Ascender, and Saab 9-7x vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the headlamp driver module (HDM) may overheat and fail, causing the headlamps and daytime running lights to not illuminate.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Headlamps that do not illuminate reduce the driver's ability to see the roadway and reduce the vehicle's visibility to oncoming vehicles, both of which increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the HDM, free of charge. The recall began on May 17, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14291.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2007 SAAB 9-7x; 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL; and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier and Isuzu Ascender vehicles. Fluid may enter the driver's door master power window switch module, causing corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or become inoperative. The short may also cause overheating, which could melt components of the door module, producing odor, smoke, or a fire.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A short in the circuit board could lead to a fire, increasing the risk of personal injury. A fire could occur even while the vehicle is not in use. As a precaution, owners are advised to park outside until the remedy has been made.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the part number on the door module, and install a new door module if necessary, free of charge. Parts for the remedy are not currently available. An interim letter was mailed to owners in August 2014. A second owner letter will be mailed when parts are available. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-462-8782 (GMC), 1-800-955-9007 (SAAB), and 1-800-255-6727 (Isuzu). GM's number for this recall is 14309. NOTE: This recall provides a new remedy for all vehicles covered by recall 13V-248. Vehicles whose modules were modified but not replaced as part of the previous recall remedy must have their vehicles remedied again under this campaign.

Oct 31, 2006

CERTAIN VEHICLES ORIGINALLY BUILT WITH CLOTH SEATS THAT WERE EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATIC AIR BAG PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM AND LATER REUPHOLSTERED WITH AFTERMARKET LEATHER SEAT COVER KITS ARE INVOLVED. TESTING HAS INDICATED THAT THE AFTERMARKET LEATHER SEAT COVERS CAN CAUSE THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM TO MALFUNCTION.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: IF THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS, THE FRONT AIR BAG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE MAY BE DISABLED WHEN IT SHOULD BE ENABLED, OR ENABLED WHEN IT SHOULD BE DISABLED. IN EITHER CASE, IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH THAT REQUIRES AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, A FRONT PASSENGER'S LEVEL OF INJURY MAY BE INCREASED.

Remedy: BECAUSE A REPLACEMENT LEATHER SEAT COVER THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM IS NOT AVAILABLE, GENERAL MOTORS (GM) WILL REPURCHASE THESE VEHICLES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TERMS STATED IN GM'S LETTER TO OWNERS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 6, 2006. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT GM AT 1-877-477-1022 TO BEGIN THE PROCESS OF REPURCHASING THEIR VEHICLE.

RQ17002 · Loss Of Headlights

Opened Apr 24, 2017 · Closed Mar 29, 2021

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Exterior Lighting:headlights

The subject vehicles are model year (MY) 2002-2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, 2004-2007 Buick Rainier, 2003-2008 Isuzu Ascender, 2005-2009 Saab 9-7X, 2002-2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2003-2006 Chevrolet SSR, 2005-2009 Buick Lacrosse, and 2006-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix. This scope includes the Trailblazer/Envoy variants: 2002-2006 Envoy XL/Trailblazer EXT and 2004-2005 Envoy XUV. The original scope of this investigation was expanded to include all vehicles equipped with the subject Headlight Driver Module (HDM). The focus of the investigation was to determine whether actions performed by General Motors adequately addressed any unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety in the subject vehicles concerning the headlights and the HDM that controls them.Under normal electrical load and environmental conditions, the HDM can overheat inside the Underhood Electrical Center (UEC). This can cause the module to fail and result in a simultaneous loss of both low beam headlights and both daytime running lights (DRLs), often with no warning or prior detectability to the driver. This failure can be intermittent or permanent. No other exterior lights are affected. High beams, turn signals, brake lights, and reverse lights are still operational.General Motors addressed this issue with 2 recalls (14V755 & 15V519) and a special coverage program (N172091910). In view of the recalls and special coverage program implemented by GM and the vehicle high beams continuing to operate, ODI has tentatively concluded that the actions taken by GM mitigate any unreasonable risk to safety posed by HDM failure in the subject vehicles.Accordingly, the investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by new circumstances. The ODI reports cited above are available for review online at NHTSA.gov under the identification numbers in the attached document.

EA12004 · Driver's Master Power Window Switch

Opened Jun 11, 2012 · Closed Jun 21, 2013

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Electrical System; Visibility:power Window Devices And Controls

On August 15, 2012 General Motors (GM) announced a regional recall action (12V-406) involving model year (MY) 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, Isuzu Ascender and MY2005-2007 SAAB 9-7x vehicles originally sold or currently registered in the salt belt states of Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia. The recall remedy requires the inspection and repair or replacement of the master power window switch, which GM refers to as a driver door module (DDM). At the same time, GM implemented a special coverage program to replace failed DDMs for vehicles registered outside of these states. ODI was not satisfied with GM's exclusion of non-salt belt vehicles and continued its investigation. On June 13, 2013, GM submitted a related recall notification (13V-248) to reclassify the initial special coverage program into a safety recall for vehicles that were not previously repaired under special coverage. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Engineering Analysis EA12-004 on June 11, 2012 to further investigate allegations of DDM thermal incidents in model year (MY) 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer vehicles. Thermal incidents involve cases where fire-related events such as smoke and melt are present. ODI has received 170 reports alleging a thermal event occurred. Complainants stated that the DDM melted and in some cases produced odor and/or smoke. Fourteen of these incidents led to a fire where visible flames were reported or the damage extended significantly beyond the DDM. In addition to the 170 reports listed above, ODI received 63 reports alleging the DDM acted erratically or became inoperative. In response to ODI's Information Request (IR), GM provided 619 unique consumer complaints that related to the alleged problem. Seventy-seven of those reports led to a fire with flame, and 4 reported injuries of smoke inhalation and/or slight burns from contact with hot switches. GM also submitted 20,400 warranty claims for replacement of the DDM, most of which involved inoperative switches. The problem condition is caused by fluids, such as rain water, entering the driver's door module and subsequently causing corrosion that could result in an electrical short in the printed circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or become inoperative. However, the electrical short may also cause overheating that could melt components of the door module, producing odor, smoke or in some cases fire with flame. The circuit board was redesigned and GM implemented the new design into vehicle production on May 14, 2007. All failures cited above occurred in vehicles produced before this build date (i.e., with the original design DDM). GM also reported that all MY 2006-2007 GMT360/370 platform vehicles and MY 2005 SAAB 9-7x vehicles utilized the same DDM and therefore ODI expanded the subject population to include these vehicles. This investigation is closed on the basis of GM's announcement of safety recalls 12V-406 and 13V-248. The ODI complaints cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID, see the attached list for ODI numbers.
