AT APPROXIMATELY 22,000 MILES THE BACK ROTORS AND BRAKES WERE REPLACED THEN AT ABOUT 32,000 MILES THE FRONT ROTORS AND BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED, AND THEN LAST SUMMER THE BACK BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THE ROTORS WERE TURNED. ALSO SOMETIME WITHIN 30,000 - 45,000 MILES ALL THE BRAKE LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS TWO DIFFERENT ALTERNATORS AND A WINDOW MOTOR. TODAY (APRIL 20,2012) MY WIFE AND I WERE GOING TO TOWN TO GET SOMETHING TO EAT, WHEN AN EMERGENCY VEHICLE PULLED ONTO A STREET THAT WE WERE ON BUT WAS GOING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AND PULL OVER AND WHEN I DID THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY I HAD ROOM TO MOVE THE TRUCK TO GET OUT OF THE WAY AND AFTER SOME DISTANCE WE GOT STOPPED. WE NURSED THE TRUCK HOME AND ITS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY AGAIN WITH SOME TYPE OF A BRAKE PROBLEM.I THINK THAT I HAVE REPORTED THIS BEFORE BUT A TRUCK THAT IS BABIED AND TREATED LIKE MINE WITH ONLY 57,000 MILES ON IT THAT HAS TO HAVE THREE SETS OF BRAKES (NOT COUNTING THE ORIGINAL), ALL THE BRAKE LINES COMPLETELY REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY. ROTORS REPLACED FRONT AND REAR AND ROTORS REPLACED AND TURNED A SECOND TIME, AND NOW SOMETHING BRAKE RELATED BROKEN AGAIN SHOULD GET SOMEONE'S ATTENTION. THESE TRUCKS AREN'T SAFE, AND NO ONE BUYS INTO THE ENVIRONMENT OR LACK OF DRIVING EXCUSES. I ALSO HAVE A 1997 CHEVY TRUCK WITH APPROXIMATELY 126,000 MILES WITH NO PROBLEMS AT ALL, A TRUCK WITH 57,000 MILES THAT REQUIRES TWO ALTERNATORS (NOT COUNTING THE ORIGINAL), WHEEL SENSORS,BRAKE LINES / ROTORS / BRAKES THAT YOU HAD BETTER NOT TRUST AND A WHOLE LOT OF MONEY TO KEEP THE THING ON THE ROAD IS NOT A QUALITY PRODUCT. *JS *TR

DRIVING ALONG AND ATTEMPTED TO STOP, WHEN THE BRAKES SUDDENLY FAILED. PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. UPON CHECKING THE TRUCK, THE FRONT BRAKE LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED AS THEY TURN AND ROUTE OVER THE FRAME TO THE ABS UNIT WHICH IS MOUNTED UNDER THE DRIVER SEAT FLOOR. UPON INSPECTION, ALL OF THE LINES ARE SEVERELY CORRODED AND WILL REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. ONE LET LOOSE DUE TO THE RUST AND CORROSION, AND CAUSED A LARGE LEAK, RESULTING IN THE PEDAL GOING TO THE FLOOR AND THE BRAKES FAILING. THIS IS A ONE OWNER TRUCK AND HAS NOT HAD ANY MODIFICATIONS TO IT. THE PLACEMENT OF THE ABS UNIT AND THE WAY THE LINES ARE ROUTED EXPOSES THE BRAKE LINES TO ALL OF THE ROAD SPRAY AND THEREFORE ROAD SALT, WHICH CORRODES THE LINES PREMATURELY. IF INVESTIGATORS WOULD LIKE TO COME OUT AND INSPECT THIS VEHICLE, CONTACT ME- IT HAS NOT BEEN TOUCHED AND IS AS IT CAME FROM THE FACTORY. THIS NEEDS TO BE HANDLED BY GM ASAP. THIS IS A CRASH WAITING TO HAPPEN.THIS HAS ALREADY PROVED TO BE VERY DANGEROUS, AS THE LOSS OF THE BRAKES WAS SUDDEN AND WITHOUT WARNING. IN A LETTER DATED NOVEMBER 7, 2007, GENERAL MOTORS (GM) REPORTED TO THE OFFICE OF DEFECTS INVESTIGATION (ODI) THAT IT WILL CONDUCT A SAFETY RECALL (07V-521) TO REPLACE THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR (CKP) IN APPROXIMATELY 12,000 MODEL YEAR (MY) 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO AND GMC SIERRA VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 8.1 LITER ENGINES MANUFACTURED ON OR BEFORE NOVEMBER 15, 2000.ACCORDING TO GM, THE CKP CAN FAIL INTERMITTENTLY OR PERMANENTLY.A PERMANENT CKP FAILURE WOULD RESULT IN AN ENGINE STALL WITHOUT RESTART.AN INTERMITTENT CKP FAILURE COULD CAUSE THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE, THE VEHICLE TO RUN ROUGH OR THE ENGINE TO STALL BUT ALLOWS RESTART.AS A REMEDY, AN IMPROVED CKP WILL BE INSTALLED IN THE SUBJECT VEHICLES.THE RECALL CAMPAIGN WILL START IN DECEMBER 2007. DURING THE PRELIMINARY EVALUATION (PE06-016), AND THIS EA INVESTIGATION, GM AND ODI INDEPENDENTLY CONDUCTED DETAILED REVIEWS OF CERTAIN FIELD DATA TO UNDERSTAND THE NATURE AND RATE OF SUBJECT VEHICLE STALLING DUE TO CKP FAILURES.GM AND ODI REVIEWED GM'S WARRANTY CLAIMS FOR THE CKP WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF ASCERTAINING AN ESTIMATE OF THOSE CLAIMS REPRESENTING AN ENGINE STALL WHILE DRIVING.THE CKP WARRANTY CLAIMS WITHOUT VERBATIM TEXT WERE THE LARGEST SEGMENT OF WARRANTY CLAIMS.USING THOSE CLAIMS, GM SURVEYED VEHICLE OWNERS TO GATHER ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TO DETERMINE IF THE CLAIM WAS ASSOCIATED WITH A STALL WHILE DRIVING EVENT.BASED ON THE SURVEY, GM ESTIMATED THAT APPROXIMATELY 49% OF ALL WARRANTY REPAIRS FOR THE CKP INVOLVED A STALL WHILE DRIVING.ODI?S REVIEW OF GM'S SURVEY DATA PRODUCED A HIGHER ESTIMATE (71%) FOR STALL WHILE DRIVING.GM FURTHER ESTIMATED THE RATE OF STALL WHILE DRIVING FOR THE SUBJECT VEHICLES OVER TIME.IT ESTIMATED STALLING WHILE DRIVING RATES OF 1.6%, 4.6% AND 8.9% AT 1, 3 AND 6 YEARS IN SERVICE RESPECTIVELY.ODI'S REVIEW OF THE GM'S SURVEY DATA FINDS HIGHER ESTIMATED STALL WHILE DRIVING RATES OF 2.2%, 6.8% AND 13% AT 1, 3 AND 6 YEARS IN SERVICE RESPECTIVELY.
