My 2023 Chevrolet Colorado (2.7L, approx. 49,000 miles) experiences sudden, intermittent loss of motive power involving the 8-speed automatic transmission. The transmission sets codes and the vehicle drops into limp mode, capped at roughly 45 mph, without warning. The most dangerous symptom is a total loss of acceleration from a stop, especially on inclines — pressing the accelerator produces no response. On one occasion, stopped on a slight incline, the vehicle rolled backward toward the car behind me when it failed to move forward on accelerator input. I narrowly avoided a collision. On a separate occasion, after pressing the accelerator with no response, the vehicle then suddenly lurched forward into cross traffic; repeated presses produced inconsistent, delayed engagement, nearly causing a collision. To climb inclines I now have to hold the brake while applying throttle and slowly release the brake to prevent rollback. These are unpredictable loss-of-control events that create a serious crash risk in traffic. I believe this relates to a known issue affecting the GM 8-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle is currently at a GM dealer and I have an open GM Customer Care case. No crash, fire, or injury has occurred yet, but two near-collisions have.

Vehicle is scheduled to be viewed by dealership. Symptom which lead to diagnosing problems included rushing fluid sounds as air was introduced to the coolant line as well as an observable leak on the driver side where the radiator hose connects to the radiator.

Vehicle: 2023 Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab 4WD, VIN: [XXX] , mileage: 52,877. Recurrent failure in the cooling system and engine/transmission, affecting safety and use. Check Engine Light comes on and off intermittently, code P30C5 (Coolant Flow Low). The coolant pump was replaced under warranty on March 20, 2025, at Leson Chevrolet (Harvey, LA) with 26,621 miles (attached invoice), but the same issue persists 9 months later with "Engine and Transmission System" alert in myChevrolet app. This is the 5th failed repair for the same defect since purchase (August 2023). Previous repairs include transmission wiring/sensor (January 2024) and Traction Control/ABS (December 2023). The vehicle is unsafe for daily 100-mile commute. Unpredictable electrical failures create safety risk during remote travel. DEALER CONFIRMATION: Approximately 20 dealer visits. Each time: scan codes, test drive, "no fault found." Problem temporarily clears via battery disconnect/reconnect, proving electrical fault not mechanical. Dealer cannot diagnose root cause, hasn't performed systematic electrical testing. MANUFACTURER INSPECTION: None despite repeated failures. WARNING SYMPTOMS: Intermittent: door ajar warnings, power window/lock failures, 4WD indicator yellow, various warning lights. i have a 2023 Colorado and its only got 69,000 miles. my Crank shaft seal went out with no warnings. No dash lights or oil lights. ive read online where is this has happened to a few colorados. I had 0 oil on my dipstick and didn't have one check engine light on.

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle seemed to operate in 4WD mode; however, the instrument cluster stated that the vehicle was operating in 2WD mode. Additionally, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the check engine warning light was cleared. The contact also stated that while at a complete stop, the Auto START/STOP feature turned off the engine; however, upon depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond, and the engine made abnormal grinding sounds. The vehicle then accelerated to 40 MPH and then slammed on the brakes unintendedly, nearly causing a crash. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact continually depressed the accelerator pedal, and the vehicle lurched forward and jerked while responding. The contact was able to pull into a parking lot. The vehicle was towed to the second dealer, Malloy Chevrolet (2700 Valley Ave, Winchester, VA 22601) where the failure recurred. The vehicle was being diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 600. The VIN was unavailable.

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Chevrolet Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon vehicles. The left or right front seat may have a seat belt buckle attachment bolt that was not tightened properly.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A loose seat belt may not properly restrain an occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Dealers will tighten the left and right front seat belt buckle attachment bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 30, 2024. General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon vehicles. The front wheel hub bolts may have been over-tightened and damaged during installation.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Damaged bolts may loosen or break, which can result in a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash.

EA26006 · Electronic Brake Module Component Failure

On April 11, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE24011 after receiving complaints concerning a loss of brake assist in 2023 MY Cadillac Lyriq vehicles. These complaints allege a hard brake pedal, followed by a “Brake System Failure” message at start up or while driving. GM shared records regarding several internal investigations for loss of brake assist due to alleged spindle fractures in the eBoost system. GM has stated that in the event of a spindle fracture, anti-lock brakes (ABS), stability control, and traction control remain functional until the vehicle comes to a complete stop. At this point, ABS, brake assist, stability control, and traction control functions are lost. The loss of these functions causes the vehicle to set one of three Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) based on failed performance criteria for the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM). These DTCs, in turn, activate several driver alerts: an audible chime, a visual “Service Brake System” message in the display, and multiple illuminated Malfunction Indicator Lights (MILs) for the ABS, Traction Control, and Brakes informing the driver of loss of functionality. The vehicle speed will also be limited to 70 KPH (43 MPH). Since opening PE24011, ODI has continued to receive reports of loss of brake assist. Some of these reports describe symptoms inconsistent with GM’s description of a spindle failure. These reports allege an immediate loss of brake assist functionality as opposed to the loss occurring after the vehicle comes to a complete stop. The sudden loss of brake assist during a braking event could result in extended braking distance, which increases the risk of a crash or injury. ODI believes further analysis is necessary to assess the potential for failures in GM’s eBoost system to resulting in safety-related outcomes. At this time, ODI is aware of the following vehicles that are equipped with this eBoost system: 2023-2026 MY Cadillac Lyriq, Chevrolet Colorado, and GMC Canyon; 2024-2026 MY Buick Enclave, Envision; Chevrolet Blazer EV, Equinox EV, Traverse; Cruise Origin; and GMC Acadia; 2025-2026 MY Cadillac Celestiq and Optiq. ODI is also aware of 2024-2026 MY Acura ZDX and 2024-2026 MY Honda Prologue vehicles that were built with this system. The Acura and Honda vehicles were manufactured by GM in a joint venture with Honda, and will be included in the Engineering Analysis as peer vehicles. ODI is opening this Engineering Analysis to further assess the safety-related consequences of a failed eBoost system. In addition, ODI is expanding the scope of the investigation to encompass all GM vehicles that share this eBoost system.
