GOT OVER IN THE SLOW LANE THE HIGHWAY BECOME NARROW WITH NO SHOULDER TO PULL OVER SO I WAS GOING TO DRIVE TILL I COULD PULL OVER BUT THEM ANOTHER CHIME AND MY DASH READ (ENGINE DISABLED) AND MOTOR SHUT OFF. COAST TO SOMEONE'S DRIVEWAY AND SET THERE SHAKING FROM BEING SCARED FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES. DECIDED TO TRY IGNITION AND THE CAR RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO LIMP TO A PULL OFF AND CALL FOR A TOW HOME. I REALIZE MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND HAS 119K MILES ON IT BUT NOBODY SHOULD BE FACED WITH A SITUATION LIKE I WAS PUT IN. ALSO I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER MONTHS AGO ABOUT MY IGNITION RECALL AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD ORDER THE PARTS THEN CALL ME TO BRING MY CAR IN AND LIKE I SAID THAT WAS ALMOST 3 MONTHS AGO AND I HAVE HEARD NOTHING NO PHONE CALL.

GOOD AFTERNOON, I HAVE A FEW CONCERNS ABOUT MY VEHICLE AND HAVE CONTACTED CHEVROLET AND THE ATTORNEY GENERAL BUT THEY HAVE NOW DIRECTED MY QUESTIONS/CONCERNS TO YOU. MY VEHICLE IS NOW ON ITS SIXTH RECALL. EVERY TIME I HAVE TO BRING MY CAR IN FOR WORK, I HAVE TO TAKE TIME OFF OF WORK AND THE CAR DEALERSHIPS IM REQUIRED TO BRING MY CAR INTO DO NOT HAVE LOANER VEHICLES. HOWEVER, MY PRIMARY CONCERN IS THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND I AM A SINGLE MOM. THESE RECALLS ARE DISCONCERTING AND WITHIN THE LETTERS HAVE OPENLY STATED THAT THESE DEFECTS, FLAWS OR PROBLEMS HAVE CAUSED DEATHS. MY SON IS MY EVERYTHING AND IT IS MY JOB TO PROTECT HIM. WHEN I CONTACTED THE COMPANY TO ASK HOW MANY RECALLS DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE A VEHICLE INEFFECTIVE IN REGARDS TO, DO THEY STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS? I WAS THEN DIRECTED TO YOU. THE INDIVIDUAL I SPOKE TO SAID THEY DO NOT WORK IN LEMON LAWS BUT WHAT ABOUT SAFETY LAWS? WHAT ABOUT STANDING BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT? WHAT ABOUT PROTECTING THOSE INDIVIDUALS THAT HAVE BOUGHT THEIR PRODUCTS AND HAVE NOW HAD MULTIPLE RECALLS THAT HAVE THE ABILITY TO MAKE THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE AND POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING. IF I HAD THE FUNDS I WOULD BUY A DIFFERENT VEHICLE. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE AND GOOD ON GAS MILEAGE. I DO NOT HAVE ANY EXTRA FUNDS TO BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE. MY CONCERN IS FOR THE SAFETY OF MY SON AND MYSELF AND I AM APPALLED THAT A COMPANY DOES NOT SEEM TO STAND BEHIND ITS PRODUCT AFTER THIS MANY RECALLS. PLEASE HELP,

IN 2012 I HAD AN INCIDENT, MY KEY WAS STUCK IN THE IGNITION WITH THE CAR RUNNING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER WAS REMOVED, AND THEY FOUND THE SPRING HOLD DOWN PLATE WAS OFF AND THE SPRING WAS OUT OF THE CYLINDER, THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER. THEN, THE RECALL HAPPENED AND IN FEB OF 2015 I HAD TO BRING MY CAR IN FOR THE PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL, THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION AND START SWITCH. IN MAY OR JUNE 2015 I NOTICED THAT MY CAR WAS ACTING WEIRD, THE SPEEDOMETER WAS ACTING ERRATIC JUMPING FROM 30 TO 60 THEN BACK DOWN TO 20. IT WAS JUMPING ALL OVER THE PLACE EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS JUST IDLING THEN IT WOULD STALL OUT. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER THE LAST WEEK OF JUNE OR THE 1ST WEEK OF JULY, THEY CHANGED THE MODULE PANEL AND SAID IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. I DROVE MY CAR OUT OF STATE ON JULY 17TH, ON THE WAY HOME IT STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN, THE ENGINE SEEMED TO LOSE POWER WHEN GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE SPEEDOMETER WAS ACTING ALL ERRATIC AND THE CAR WAS BUCKING LIKE IT WANTED TO STALL. WHEN I GOT HOME I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER ON JULY 28TH, THE CAR WAS THERE ALL DAY BUT THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE SO WHEN I GOT OFF WORK I WENT UP THERE AND THE TECH TOOK A RIDE WITH ME, THE CAR ACTED UP AND HE GOT TO SEE WHAT IT WAS DOING, HE MENTIONED SOMETHING ABOUT A CLUSTER PANEL TO THE SERVICE MANAGER BUT SAID HE HAD TO CHECK WITH GM. ON FRIDAY THE 31ST OF 2015 THEY PUT IN ANOTHER IGNITION THINKING THE OTHER MAY HAVE BEEN FAULTY. THE TECH CALLED ME TO SEE HOW THE CAR WAS RUNNING AN HOUR LATER, THE CAR WAS DOING THE SAME EXACT THING. I AM TAKING IT IN TOMMORROW AUG 3RD BUT I'M NOT SURE WHAT WILL HAPPEN. MY CAR HAS 59,800 MILES AND I JUST PAID IT OFF ON JULY 31, 2015 IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WHILE IDLING THE SPEEDOMETER JUMPED TO 120 MPH THEN STALLED OUT. IT STALLS OUT AT LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS AND TRIES TO STALL WHEN I AM DRIVING,

15V500000 · Air Bags:side/window

Aug 10, 2015

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt vehicles manufactured January 4, 2010, to June 23, 2010. The affected vehicles may be equipped with an improperly routed Side-Impact Sensor (SIS) wiring harness in the driver side front door. The misrouted wiring harness could cause an electrical short that disables the driver side curtain air bag.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A disabled driver side roof-rail air bag will not deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of that air bag, increasing the risk of injury to the driver.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the sensor's wiring in the driver's door and make repairs as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on September 8, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 15075.

Apr 10, 2014

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, 2006-2011 Chevrolet HHR, 2007-2010 Pontiac G5, 2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice, 2003-2007 Saturn Ion, and 2007-2010 Saturn Sky vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the key can be removed from the ignition when the ignition is not in the "Off" position.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the key can be removed from the ignition when the ignition is not in the "off" position, the vehicle could roll away: (a) for an automatic transmission, if the transmission is not in the "Park" position; or (b) for a manual transmission, if the parking brake is not engaged and the transmission is not in the "Reverse" position. This potential for rollaway increases the risk for a crash and occupant or pedestrian injuries.

Remedy: General Motors will notify owners, and for vehicles that were built with the defective ignition cylinder and have not previously had the ignition cylinder replaced with the redesigned part, dealers will replace the ignition cylinder and cut and, if necessary, re-learn two ignition/door keys for each vehicle. For vehicles that were built with the redesigned ignition cylinder or had the ignition cylinder replaced with the redesigned part, dealers will cut and, if necessary, re-learn two ignition/door keys for each vehicle. The recall began on April 18, 2014. Chevrolet owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-222-1020, Pontiac owners at 1-800-762-2737, and Saturn owners at 1-800-553-6000. General Motors' number for this recall is 14113 for the ignition lock cylinder and key replacement, and 14133 for only key replacements. Note: Until a vehicle has been remedied, owners and operators are advised that when exiting, to be sure that the vehicle is in "Park," or in the case of a manual transmission, that the vehicle is in the "Reverse" position and the parking brake is engaged.

14V153000 · Steering:electric Power Assist System

Mar 31, 2014

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2006 and 2008-2009 Chevrolet Malibu, 2004-2006 Malibu Maxx, 2009-2010 HHR (non-turbo), 2010 Cobalt, 2008-2009 Saturn Aura and 2004-2007 Ion, and 2005-2009 Pontiac G6. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will perform one of four bulletins. Parts are not currently available. GM expects to send an interim notification around May 28, 2014. When parts are available, owners will be mailed a second letter to come in to have the applicable bulletin applied. Bulletin 14115 covers model year 2004-2007 Saturn Ion, 2009-2010 Chevrolet HHR and 2010 Chevrolet Cobalts. Dealers will replace the EPS motor. Bulletin 14116 covers model year 2004-2006 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, 2005-2006 Pontiac G6 and 2008-2009 Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura built from March 1, 2008, through June 27, 2008. Dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly. Bulletin 14117 covers model year 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura built from February 1, 2008, through February 28, 2008. Dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly and EPS motor controller unit. Bulletin 14118 covers model year 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura built from October 1, 2007, through January 31, 2008. Dealers will replace the EPS motor controller unit. The recall began on July 17, 2014. Owners may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, Saturn at 1-800-553-6000, and Pontiac at 1-800-620-7668. GM's number for this recall is N140115. Note: GM bulletin number 14119 will be implemented for model year 2006-2008 and early production of 2009 Chevrolet HHR (non-turbo) and model year 2003 Saturn ION to provide EPS Motor replacement for the life of the vehicle.

PE20011 · Fuel Line Leak

Opened Jul 5, 2020 · Closed Aug 17, 2023

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Fuel System, Gasoline; Fuel System, Other:delivery:hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings; Fuel/propulsion System

On July 5, 2020, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened PE20-011 to investigate instances of metal fuel lines under the vehicle corroding and leaking fuel in model year (MY) 2008 through 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt and 2008 through 2009 Chevrolet HHR passenger cars manufactured by General Motors (GM). The metal fuel lines are corroding and leaking fuel in the area between the front and rear wheels on the driver's side of the vehicle before the muffler. Most consumers allege a fuel odor and/or an observable fuel leak that alerts them to the condition. The subject metal fuel lines have a protective AGE coating and, in the vicinity of the left rear wheel, are further wrapped in a foil heat shield. The AGE coating consists of an annealed zinc aluminum alloy metal coating with extended corrosion protection paint. Under certain conditions, water and corrosive road deicing agents may enter a crevice between the heat shield and the AGE coating. With extended environmental exposure in high corrosive environments, the AGE coating can degrade. If it degrades enough, the base metal lines may begin to corrode beneath the heat shield.Corrosion to the fuel lines may eventually cause a perforation to develop in the line, allowing fuel vapors to escape from between the line and the heat shield, emitting a fuel odor that will be detectable to the vehicle operator. If the corrosion progresses, fuel may begin to weep from the line. Further metal degradation due to corrosion could create a drip or a mist of fuel. If this occurs, vehicle owners may see drips, spots, or puddles on the ground near the rear portion of the vehicle, primarily along the driver's side rear wheel. The majority of allegations (85%) were reported for vehicles that are operated in the salt belt region of the United States. This area includes states in the Northeast, mid-Atlantic, and Midwest regions. Additionally, the average failure mileage in the subject vehicles is approximately 111,000 across all data sources.Considering the low manufacturer complaint/warranty rates of fuel line replacement, the fact that the majority of failures are concentrated in salt belt states, high failure mileages, as well as the field exposure time for the subject vehicles, and the highly detectable and progressive nature of this failure over time, the potential safety consequences of this issue are very low. To date, there have been no reported crashes, injuries, or fatalities related to this issue. There are two reported fires in ODI data and no reported fires in GM data. Both ODI reported fires were minor, occurred after the vehicle was parked, and were extinguished utilizing fire extinguishers. In view of the progressive failure occurring at high mileages, the age of the subject vehicles, the high detectability of the leak, and the majority of failures occurred in salt belt states, this Preliminary Evaluation is closed. Fuel/propulsion System
