While driving under normal conditions, the Lane Keep Assist system on my 2025 BMW Alpina XB7 unexpectedly and violently jerked the steering wheel without driver input. The sudden steering intervention caused the vehicle to abruptly change direction and strike a curb, resulting in a loss-of-control event. This occurred without warning and could have resulted in a serious crash involving other vehicles, pedestrians, or roadside obstacles. Additionally, the adaptive cruise control system has repeatedly applied sudden and aggressive braking without an apparent reason or obstacle present. These abrupt braking events create a significant risk of a rear-end collision, as following vehicles are not anticipating such sudden deceleration. These issues involve advanced driver-assistance safety systems that are intended to enhance control and safety. Instead, they are operating in a manner that overrides driver input and introduces unsafe driving conditions. The servicing dealership acknowledged the issues and advised me not to use the Lane Keep Assist and cruise control features. Being instructed to disable safety systems due to unsafe behavior is unacceptable and does not resolve the underlying defect. Given the loss-of-control incident and the ongoing unpredictable braking behavior, I believe these defects present a serious safety risk to vehicle occupants and the public.

I am leasing a 2025 BMW X7 vin number ([XXX]) through BMW Financial Services. The vehicle has had an active federal safety recall since approximately February 2024, and as of today, the manufacturer has not provided a remedy to address the issue. The recall is listed on the NHTSA website but remains unresolved for over 17 months, despite my attempts to obtain information and updates from both the dealership and BMW directly. I believe this is a violation of my consumer rights under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act and breach of warranty, as the vehicle has a known safety defect that the manufacturer has failed to repair within a reasonable time. I am requesting assistance in: 1.Reaching a resolution with BMW to either terminate the lease without penalty, or 2.Compelling the manufacturer to provide an immediate remedy. This recall impacts the safety and use of the vehicle, and I am concerned for both my safety and the financial obligations tied to a defective product. We have contacted the BMW Dealership several times with no response on the recall. The BMWX7 was purchased on 5/25/24 and due to the recall is unsafe to drive. We are frustrated with BMW and lack of response and fix for the problem as of 1/28/25. At present we have a very nice new car that is garaged and are unable to drive due to the liability of potential braking or lack of braking that could cause an accident and bodily harm. What recourse can you offer to encourage BMW to get the problem corrected? i.e., the braking system fixed.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2025 Mini Cooper S, Mini Countryman S All4, X2, 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre, 2023-2025 i7, 7 Series, X7, 2024-2025 i5, 5 Series, 2023-2024 XM, X1, 2024-2025 X6, and X5 vehicles. The integrated brake (IB) system may malfunction and result in a loss of power brake assist or cause the Antilock Brake (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) systems to not function properly.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A loss of power brake assist can extend the distance required to stop the vehicle. Additionally, malfunctioning ABS and/or DSC systems can cause a loss of vehicle control. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: The Integrated brake system will be inspected and, if necessary, replaced, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 21, 2026. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or Rolls-Royce customer service at 1-877-877-3735. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning August 21, 2026. Please refer to the recall report for the complete list of models. The welds in the servomotor of the integrated brake control module may break, causing a loss of power brake assist and rear brake function. In addition, the Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system may not function.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2024 XM, 2025 BMW X5 sDrive40i, X5 xDrive40i, X5 M60i, X5 M, X5 xDrive50e, X6 xDrive40i, X6 M60i, X6 M, X7 xDrive40i, X7 M60i, and Alpina XB7 vehicles. The seat belt system may inaccurately detect that passengers are belted, preventing the seat belt warning light from illuminating and possibly causing the supplemental restraint system to not deploy as intended during a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A seat belt warning light that does not alert occupants of an unbelted seat belt or an SRS system that deploys improperly can both increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the front seat lower seat belts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 12, 2024. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
