Three weeks ago the instrument cluster indicated a failure of the front collision avoidance system and said to have the vehicle examined by the dealer. I dropped it off two weeks ago and have been informed that they're having trouble updating the instrument panel and other component software. Other times the instrument panel would go dark for several seconds while driving. There is an open recall on X5 models produced from 01/24. Mine is not included as it was produced 11/23. A car from the other side made an illegal left turn in front of me, and I braked very early, yet still slid into them. The car had been inspected at the time at the collision center, and had DTC codes from before repair and after repair, showing the Integrated Brake systems had failures before and after. There was no mention of the results of the inspection until I asked after another braking incident occurred two weeks later. There were moments where a light would pop up for a second, then disappear. It may have happened only once.

The Integrated Brake System and Dynamic Safety Control both malfunctioned, not turning on. The car is totaled, so I don't think anything is available for inspection. There was water on the highway, and the car ended up going off the road into the grass and rolled over a few times before landing at the bottom of the ditch 100ft away. The car was not inspected because I was not aware of the major recall until I started looking into it. There was a snapshot of the DTC codes two weeks before the incident and there were codes specifically for the IB system as noted in the recall. There may have been one or two times throughout driving the car beforehand that a error light popped up, but then it disappeared almost immediately after.

I have recently experienced sudden phantom braking on my vehicle on three separate occasions, following a recall on a brake module that was taken care of at the dealer. Each time this happened at highway speed for no apparent reason. The dealer, BMW of Buffalo has had the car for over a week without finding the problem. They have been in constant touch with corporate, trying to diagnose this. No luck! I will not drive this Vehicle, nor can I in good conscie nce trade it in to another dealer. I could be held liable. I'm wondering what you may have on record since there are reports on the web of similiar occurances

On July 23, 2025, at around 10:50 AM, shortly after leaving my community and driving onto a main road, my BMW X5 suddenly experienced what felt like an emergency braking event and completely lost power. I was driving at approximately 40 mph when this happened. It caused surrounding vehicles to honk and make sudden maneuvers to avoid a collision, creating a dangerous situation. I was extremely frightened and shocked, and for a moment I panicked because there were cars all around me. With the help of a friend and my family, I contacted BMW Roadside Assistance. It took nearly five hours before my vehicle was finally towed about nine miles away to the Irvine BMW dealership for service. This incident has caused me extreme emotional distress, sleeplessness, and serious concerns about the safety and quality of the vehicle. I am seeking help and an official investigation into this issue.

I purchased this vehicle under my company to rent and make some extra income for my family. We also had a baby in August of 2024 so wanted a larger vehicle for the family. We purchased the vehicle on Feb 20,2024 and the recall was issued on Feb 14,2024. We were sold a lemon. I went to the dealership and told them they said they will have a solution in a year. Still no solution and I still cannot rent my vehicle because it has an open recall. Me and my family do not feel safe in this vehicle. Please can someone help. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed; however, the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 9,000.

The integrated brake (IB) system may malfunction and result in a loss of power brake assist or cause the Antilock Brake (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) systems to not function properly.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A loss of power brake assist can extend the distance required to stop the vehicle. Additionally, malfunctioning ABS and/or DSC systems can cause a loss of vehicle control. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: The Integrated brake system will be inspected and, if necessary, replaced, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 21, 2026. BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2024-2025 X5 xDrive40i vehicles. The tire information placard may indicate an incorrect tire size and tire pressure. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Incorrect tire information can allow an incorrectly sized tire to be installed or result in improperly inflated tires, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the tire information placard, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 9, 2024. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Instrument panel separation during air bag deployment can result in pieces of the panel striking occupants. Improper air bag deployment may not restrain an occupant as intended during a crash. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of injury.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the instrument panel, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 16, 2024. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

The knee air bag (driver and/or passenger) may not have been manufactured correctly, which can result in the knee air bag not deploying as intended.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A knee air bag that does not deploy as intended increases the risk of injury.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the knee air bag (driver and/or passenger), free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 6, 2023. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
