The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 131,992.

The contact owns a 2019 BMW 430I. The contact stated that there was a coolant leak. The contact stated that the engine overheated and the vehicle stalled while driving. The message "Engine Overheating - Stop Vehicle Immediately" was displayed. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the coolant housing needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, where it was determined that the coolant water pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the same local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that there was coolant leaking from the oil housing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, a complaint was filed, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 116,758.

I am reporting a potential safety defect involving the seatbelt, airbag, and occupant detection system in my 2019 BMW 430i. At the time of purchase, the vehicle’s software had not been updated since 2018. Because the software was so outdated, multiple safety-related fault codes did not appear during the dealer’s pre-sale inspection or during initial diagnostic checks. During a later service appointment, the dealership informed me that they were unable to perform accurate diagnostics because the software was old and could interfere with sensor readings. After I paid for the software update, several safety-related codes appeared, including faults connected to the seatbelt/occupant classification system. None of these safety defects were disclosed to me prior to the sale. This raises concern that the vehicle had an existing safety defect at the time of sale, but the outdated software prevented the detection and reporting of these faults. If other vehicles are being sold without current software, this may result in safety-critical issues being hidden from consumers and inspectors. A malfunctioning seatbelt or occupant detection system significantly increases injury risk in a crash. If outdated vehicle software suppresses or fails to display safety-critical faults, consumers may unknowingly be operating unsafe vehicles.

Rear window does not work. This car collects water from the windows which pools inside the window panel. Eventually, the pooled water damages the window motor and window regulator. Once the window stops working, the convertible top no longer works. This issue is reported all over youtube and google searches. The worse part is that to fix this, mechanics have to manually bring down the convertible top. Air BagsCrash

The airbags did not deploy upon impact from head on collision into another vehicle. The vehicle was towed and the other vehicle’s airbags did deploy that was involved in the collision. There was a police report filed & the insurance company has picked up the vehicle for them to complete an inspection & evaluation.

On my way home driving, my car dashboard and LCD screen give me a warning of overheating and engine oil pressure too low. Car stalled on stalled soon after, and started smoking. So I had the car towed and was told from bmw dealership, I had to get a new engine. I have kept up on my oil change and maintenance and never got these warning signs until now. I did mr research and found out from Kelly blue book and other websites such Dealer Rater that bmw same year make and model have a few recalls including engine cooling and crankshaft sensor malfunction. The bmw mechanic advise the coolant and oil holder made of plastic melted down into the engine and engine needs to be replaced. However, there have been reports states that other have experience the same thing with bmw cars. This should not have happened when much warnings was not given and how ironic same year make and model had the same issue and recall was issued. I have screen shots to prove it.

The contact owns a 2019 BMW 430I. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the "Coolant Low" message was displayed, prompting the contact to add coolant to the coolant reservoir. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The low coolant warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V608000 (Engine and Engine Cooling, Electrical System), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 99,000.

I purchased my vehicle October2023. May 23,2024, at 1:34 pm, my vehicle broke down due to a message on my dashboard stating “Drivetrain malfunction”. I was on the highway with no use of my gas pedal, which resulted in me rolling back all while being 5 months pregnant. June 18,2024, at 3:04pm ,my vehicle broke down again due to the same message that previously popped up “Drivetrain malfunction”. I was also on the highway with no use of my gas pedal all while pregnant. July 18,2024, at 12:25 midnight, my vehicle broke down again due to the previous problem “Drivetrain malfunction” by the airport with no use of my gas pedal all while 6 months pregnant. Each time I my vehicle malfunction I almost got hit by other vehicles because I had no use of my gas pedals to get out of the way. There were no warning signs at all. When the message pops up on my dashboard the gas pedal completely becomes inoperable. This vehicle has put me and my soon to be baby in harms way multiple times. The dealership has had 3 times to fix the problem and still fail to do so. Having their opportunity to fix it three times just to tell me it’s because it doesn’t have gas in it when it did has put my in a situation where I’m constantly worried about it braking down again putting me and my unborn child in danger AGAIN, to where I am financing a car I can not use. Not including the 2 times I had to pay to get it towed from the airport because the police told me I couldn’t leave it there.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2019-2020 230i, 230i xDrive, M240i, M240i xDrive, M2 Competition Coupe, 430i, 430i xDrive, 440i, 440i xDrive, M4, and 2019 330i xDrive Sportswagon vehicles. The driver and passenger knee air bag assemblies may have been improperly folded and assembled.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: An improperly folded and assembled air bag may not deploy as intended, increasing risk of injury.

Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the knee air bag modules, free of charge. The recall began July 8, 2019. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling one each of 2019 BMW 430i xDrive Gran Coupe, 440i xDrive Gran Coupe and 430i xDrive Convertible vehicles. The front passenger air bag inflator may have been incorrectly manufactured, potentially affecting the air bag deployment performance in the event of a crash.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the front passenger air bag does not deploy properly in the event of a crash, the occupant has an increased risk of injury.

Remedy: All affected vehicles are still in dealer inventory. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag module, free of charge.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2018 BMW 540d xDrive vehicles. The crankshaft sensor may be equipped with incorrect firmware, preventing the sensor from properly processing input from the crankshaft reluctor ring, possibly resulting in a vehicle stall. On September 12, 2018, BMW expanded the recall to a total of 5,309 vehicles including certain 2018-2019 BMW 540d xDrive, 230i M240i, M240i xDrive, X2 sDrive28i, X2 xDrive28i, X1 sDrive28i, X1 xDrive28i, 330i, 330i xDrive, 340i, 340i xDrive, 330i xDrive Gran Turismo, 530i, 530i xDrive, 540i, 540i xDrive, 530e, 530e xDrive, 640i xDrive Gran Turismo, 330e, 2019 430i Gran Coupe, 430i xDrive Gran Coupe, 440i Gran Coupe, 440i xDrive Gran Coupe, 430i, 430i xDrive, 440i, 440i xDrive, 740i, 740i xDrive, MINI Cooper, Cooper S, JCW, MINI Countryman (Cooper, Cooper All4, Cooper S, Cooper S All4, JCW All4), and MINI Clubman (Cooper, Cooper S, Cooper All4, Cooper S All4, JCW All4) vehicles.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A vehicle stall can increase the risk of a crash.

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern.
